Blackboard Ultra Course End-of-the-Semester Tips

|

Special thanks to all Blackboard Ultra course directors and instructors for your commendable instruction and leadership this semester. As the spring term draws to a close, please follow the steps below for a successful conclusion.

  1. Calculate Final Grades
Use the Overall Grade feature or create a Total Calculations grade column to determine final grades. Make them available and instruct students to review them. Once done, enter them in Banner for final reporting to the Registrar’s Office.
  2. Download Your Gradebook
A best practice tip is to save a copy of your grade book. After you enter final grades into Banner for the record, download your grade history. The grade history provides a useful audit trail. Your gradebook is downloadable in CSV format in Excel and saved to your computer.
  3. Modify Course Duration
By default, the Blackboard course shell duration (availability) is to expire on the last day of each term. However, please adjust your duration if needed. For example, to allow student access after the semester ends, change the duration to ongoing (change the duration setting) or apply a specific date.
  4. Clean Up Your Course Files
Course Directors can download and save course material to their computers for review purposes. This review allows you to remove duplicate or outdated documents, presentations, and handouts. Stay current by reviewing your content files at the end of the semester. You will save time and effort the next time you teach this content.
  5. You Did It!
The final step is to reflect on how well your course went. What worked, or what needs to be tweaked for the next semester? Congratulations! Now enjoy your achievement!
