Using Gamification to Engage Students

Post

One way to engage healthcare professional students is through the use of gamification and games. Gamification and games can be used to help encourage learners to motivate actions, progress through content, and reinforce behavior and knowledge. While games and gamification are often used interchangeably, there is a difference. The use of gamification for learning is not about using a self-contained game for learning purposes, however it is applying elements of games to learning activities to engagement learners. Games are a self-contained activity where disbelief is suspended. The use of both strategies can encourage and engage interprofessional learners. This presentation will allow attendees to understand the difference between games and gamification as well as brainstorm opportunities for incorporation at their own college.
