Biography

I work within the College of Medicine as a pharmacology educator and serve as the interim Assistant Dean of Basic Science Curriculum. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a PhD in pharmacology. At Iowa I obtained teaching experience with undergraduates by leading an undergraduate elective on consumer pharmacology. My first professor appointment was with Kansas City University. There I taught pharmacology to medical students and led an elective course series for medical student fellows entitled "Foundations of Teaching and Learning." Currently I teach many different pharmacological topics within the MD program.

I am currently a fellow with the Master of Education in the Health Professions program within the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. I plan to complete the degree program in the Spring of 2023 having completed just over half of the program as of January 2021. My education at Hopkins has helped me develop skills in assessment, curricular design, and medical education research. I am specializing my degree to focus on educational research.

My current research focus is a bit eclectic as I dip my toe into medical education research and work to develop a niche. I've successfully published a review article on technology in medical education and recently had an article accepted for publication in the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine entitled, "A Retrospective and Correlative Analysis of Academic and Non-Academic Predictors of COMLEX Level 1 Performance." I also have a research interest in medical student study strategies and how medical students use learning resources. Additionally, I am pursuing research on educational interventions to assess their effectiveness in enhancing student satisfaction with learning, student perception of learning, and learning outcomes.
